Tampa Sexual Harassment Resources

Tampa-area employees can report certain forms of workplace sexual harassment to local, state, or federal agencies. Which agency may accept a complaint can depend on factors such as where the employer is located, the employer’s size, and the laws involved.

  • Tampa Office of Human Rights: Receives and investigates qualifying employment discrimination complaints involving employers within Tampa city limits. Its services are free and include complaints involving sexual harassment, sex discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Hillsborough County Equal Opportunity Administrator’s Office: Accepts qualifying employment discrimination and harassment complaints involving workplaces in unincorporated Hillsborough County, Temple Terrace, and Plant City.
  • EEOC Tampa Field Office: Handles federal workplace harassment and discrimination charges arising in Hillsborough County and other parts of western and northern Florida. The EEOC can be reached at 1-800-669-4000.
  • Florida Commission on Human Relations: Accepts qualifying complaints involving sexual harassment, sex discrimination, retaliation, and other unlawful employment practices under Florida law.
  • Metro Healthy Communities: Provides affirming behavioral health care, peer programs, and community support at locations throughout the Tampa Bay area, including services for LGBTQ+ individuals who may be coping with harassment or discrimination.

Employees may have the option to use an employer’s internal reporting procedure, file a government complaint, or consult a sexual harassment attorney. Because different processes may carry different requirements and deadlines, employees can seek information before committing to a particular course of action.

Preparing to Ask for Help for Sexual Harassment

Employees do not need to prove every part of what happened before contacting a resource or asking questions about sexual harassment. However, preserving available records can help someone describe the conduct and how it affected the workplace.

Relevant information may include emails, text messages, screenshots, internal complaints, performance records, names of witnesses, and notes showing when incidents occurred. Florida employees should generally keep copies somewhere outside an employer-controlled email account, computer, or device.
