Elizabeth employees can contact state and federal agencies that investigate certain workplace sexual harassment and discrimination complaints. Other statewide services can help callers identify resources based on their particular circumstances.

An employee may choose to raise sexual harassment through an employer’s internal reporting process, file a complaint with a government agency, or speak with an employment attorney. Because these options have different procedures and deadlines, employees can seek information before deciding how they want to proceed.

Preparing to Ask for Help for Sexual Harassment

An employee in New Jersey does not need to have every detail documented before asking for harassment help. Still, records can make it easier to explain what occurred and whether the conduct formed a pattern.

Potentially useful materials include emails, text messages, screenshots, workplace complaints, performance records, and notes identifying dates, locations, witnesses, and how the employer responded. Copies should be kept in a personal account or another location the employer or alleged harasser cannot access.
